2011 SSMT Verse 3!!

I apologize for posting memory verse #3 a week late.  Somehow amidst the snow, freezing temperatures and party planning I lost track of time.  I will post pictures of Grayson's party soon as a way of showing exactly what I've been up to the past two months:)  But for now, SSMT verse #3!

I am absolutely thrilled that so many have decided to join me in Beth's scripture memory challenge!!  What a blessing to have friends that share a passion and love for our God and Savior.  Thank you for committing to hold me accountable:)  If you are participating, will you comment below with your current verse?  I love scrolling through the thousands and thousands of verses others post on Beth's blog, and think it would be so neat to see what scriptures my friends are working on!!

Here's the one I've chosen for February 1, 2011:

"But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children- with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts."  Psalm 103:17-18 NIV

I want to encourage you to really work to commit these to memory word for word!  Download the app on your iPhone or iPad and work on it daily.  I think you'll be amazed with your memory skills and how appropriate these verses are for daily life.  I've used my first two from January numerous times in prayer or encouragement for a friend!  Praise the Holy Spirit for his work in us!  PRESS ON!!

Happy First Birthday Grayson!!!!

Our precious little angel baby turned ONE today!! Casey and I have been reminiscing the past week about what we were doing exactly a year ago. February 2, 2010 is a day I will never forget. I remember every second so clearly as if it were just yesterday. We welcomed our precious Grayson into the world. Countless days, hours and minutes of wondering what he would look like and when he would make his debut were finally answered. We had no way of knowing the unexplainable amount of love and blessings planned ahead for us. This first year with Grayson has been the best of our lives. I honestly am at a loss for words trying to convey our delight in this little boy. He is sure to bring a smile to our faces and joy to our hearts at any hour of the day or night. Even in an ultra-marathon of sleep deprivedness, I am overcome with the giddiness of a small child each morning as I hear him begin to greet the day from his room.

Grayson, you are dearly loved, cherished and delighted in. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of our Creator. What a huge honor to be your parents!! You never cease to amaze us. We love watching your every second of life, so much that we find ourselves staring into the monitor hours after you've fallen fast asleep. You are a precious child of our Most High God and we are so humbled that He has found favor with us to allow us to be you parents! Thank you for such a wonderful year!!! We look forward to celebrating many, many more with you sweet boy!!!! Happy first birthday angel baby!!!

Too Many to Declare

Being introduced to Beth Moore is something I remember very well.  It was my sophomore year in college and my roommate and I began to get plugged into a church.  We soon were introduced to a dear woman who served as my mentor throughout college and had a huge impact on shaping and molding me.  She loved, encouraged and led us as a faithful warrior leading amateurs to battle.  Clothed with dignity and grace, she introduced us to renowned author and teacher Beth Moore.  When Godly People Do Ungodly Things is the study we dove into that could not have been more perfect at that time in my college life.  Being submersed in God's word with believers is something I have since always cherished and desired.  I learned what it was to truly be devoted to studying scripture, how to pray and what accountability was.  May God have all the glory for interceding my life at just the right time.  I fear who or what I'd be if it weren't for such a special time and divine intervention.

Just days into the study and I was crazy about Beth Moore.  She is an incredibly gifted teacher and I pray to have a desire to know and serve God the way she does.  It wasn't until after graduating college and beginning a career in Midland that I came across her blog.  Although there's no telling how many thousands of followers she has, I feel such a connection to her as she tells her story and pours into women all over the world.  Although highly unlikely we will ever actually meet in person, I really feel like she is a dear friend of mine.  I am so thankful for her devotion to women's ministry and for shepherding a young woman seeking guidance and direction.

In January 2009, Beth began a scripture memory team on her blog.  She invited anyone to join her in the challenge to memorize 24 scriptures over the course of the year.  Although we are instructed to write God's word on the tablet of our hearts, I never intentionally made a goal of continually adding to my personal hard drive of verses.  I decided to join the challenge and cannot explain what a blessing it has been.  It was during that year that Casey and I learned we would soon become parents.  Two days before finding out, Deuteronomy 4:9 was the verse God put on my heart to memorize.  "Be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.  Teach them to your children and to their children after them."  The world could not have been any better.  We were on cloud nine and 2009 panned out to be a fantastic year.  It wasn't until December that I realized a majority of the 24 verses I committed to memory were about hardship and perseverance.  God's strength, protection, help in time of trouble.  Strange, I thought, since we coasted through a year that couldn't have been better.

I stood absolutely amazed as 2010 came to a close at how God prepares us to carry out his will in our lives.  Casey and I were expecting Grayson in January and knew we had the best year of our lives ahead of us.  While that is absolute truth for 2010, along with it came challenges, hardship and struggle.  We praise Him daily for blessing us with His precious angel and for his perfect timing in our lives.  Through a year of turmoil and desperation, Grayson sustained our joy and kept our hearts turned to our Savior.  I also quickly realized why God led me to memorize the scriptures he did with Beth in 2009.  WOW.  I would not have known how to prepare for what was ahead, and thank goodness it wasn't left up to me.  I am so thankful to be a child of God and praise Him that his mercies never end.  My verse from April 1, 2009 was Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV: "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in him.'"  Amen!

I failed to achieve my goal of memorizing 2 verses a month through 2010.  Beth decided not to do in on the blog last year and I know I am a person who NEEDS accountability.  Needless to say, I was ecstatic when Beth announced she was bringing the scripture memory back to her blog for 2011!  As before, the goal is to memorize 24 scriptures over the course of the year.  On the 1st and 15th of each month, she will post her new scripture and ask all participating to comment with their verse.  She encourages everyone to choose a scripture as the Lord leads (to which I can attest, he absolutely leads us to the perfect ones!!).  This year, her staff even made personal scripture spirals to purchase for $5 to keep track of verses as while committing to memory.  This is a practical way to keep them handy and great for easy referencing.  They also created an app for the iPhone and iPad!  I am LOVING it!!!

Maybe it's part of my need for accountability, but I plan to document the scriptures I am working on throughout the year.  My hope is to post my new scripture on the 1st and 15th of each month.  If anyone wants to keep me accountable or join I would be so thrilled!

For January 1, 2011 my verse is Psalm 51:10 NIV:
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

For January 15, 2011 my verse is Psalm 40:5 NIV:
"Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done.  The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare."

What a blessing to have friends to relish in God's faithfulness with.  John 15:13 says "greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."  I cannot adequately express my gratitude for so many who have denied themselves and shown Jesus to me.

Grayson is NINE Months!!

Our little monkey is nine months.  He is such a joy and treasure.  We love him so very much and are thankful for this small glimpse of how great God's love must be for us.  We honestly can't even begin to wrap our minds around the thought!  He is so so good to us.

Grayson, what are you up to at 9 months?

  • You are 21 lb, 7 1/2 oz and are 29 3/4 in long
  • Wear size 9-12 month clothes and size 3 diapers
  • You are nursing 5 times a day and are eating stage 3 baby foods.  Your favorites are carrots, sweet potatoes, pears and apples!  You also have started on some table foods and love Cheerios and sweet potato puffs.
  • Take two naps a day for about 2-2.5 hours each!  One at 9am and the other at 1pm.
  • Sleep 12 hours at night from 7p-7a!
  • You have 5 teeth!  Two on bottom and three on top:)
  • Have the sweetest disposition.  You rarely fuss or throw a fit unless you are really tired or hungry.  I can't blame you!!  I'm pretty sure you get that from your momma:)
  • You are crawling everywhere and pulling up on everything!!  You started with the Army crawl but this weekend mastered crawling on all fours!  Daddy and I called your crawl the wounded soldier because you only used your left leg to Army crawl and drug your right leg along.  So precious!
  • You are still so strong and really love to walk.
  • You LOVE your daddy and light up and squeal every time he walks in the room.  You talk about him all day long!  I LOVE hearing you say dada and momma!!!!  Absolutely melts my heart!
  • You are extremely observant and are always in deep thought.  You are very serious but love to entertain and have a good time!  You have the sweetest smile and laugh around.  I love getting to see and hear it all day long!!
  • You are a great traveler!  You love watching the world pass by out your back seat window.
  • You love to be outside just like your daddy!  Y'all are going to have the best time going on adventures together:)

What a blessing you are to us sweet baby Grayson!  We love you so much and thank God for you multiple times a day!  Thank you for the joy, love and laughter you bring us daily.  Thank you for ushering me to the throne of grace every day. I can't even imagine the mommy I'd be without our gracious Lord showing me the way.  He fearfully and wonderfully made you.  He planned every single day of your precious life and that brings this momma so much comfort.  I pray He would reveal to me the gifts and talents He's specifically given you to bring glory to and further His kingdom.  May I recognize those gifts and encourage you in them as you develop into the man God created you to be.  I know you are going to do great and mighty things in His name and it is such an honor to be your mommy!!!  We love you with all our hearts precious boy.

A Warrior and My Inspiration

Is anybody out there?  If you've given up on us, I don't blame you.  I should have deleted myself from my own Google Reader several months ago.  I am terrible at this blog thing, but have such a desire in my heart to keep it up!  Sorry if several months go by without an update:)

Life is grand.  Absolutely WONDERFUL!  We are more crazy about our baby boy today than we ever thought humanly possible.  It's amazing how the Lord continues to sustain us and pour into our lives.  He is so so good and we are forever thankful.

Grayson is now 8 months old. Count 'em... one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, EIGHT months!  How?  Where does the time go?  I already notice myself starting to say things I thought I never would.  Things my parents used to say.  I guess they know more than I thought they did:)  Needless to say, I'm ready to put some bricks on Grayson's head.  He is growing and changing constantly!!!

The week Grayson was due, my precious mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.  We were all caught completely off guard and never saw it coming.  She's always been on top of mammograms since she's had over a dozen cysts removed the past 20 years, and in November 2009 had her best one to date!  "Everything looks great, I'll see you in a year!" her doctor told her.  Not 2 months had passed when she found the tumor herself.  She instantly knew it wasn't good.  Crazy how God gives us such strong convictions and discernment, even to the smallest details about our lives.  He is so good and crazy about us.  Each and every one of us.

Her doctor got her in right away for a needle biopsy.  Malignant.  The very next day (January 27, 2010... two days before Grayson's due date) she had a lumpectomy.  Her dear doctor completely rearranged his surgery schedule to get her in.  What an answer to prayer!  Wonderful, we thought, we'll get this behind us and move on with life!  We've got a baby to meet!!

Well, 6 days later Grayson was born and Lisa received results that the cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes.  They weren't able to get it all with the lumpectomy and she needed to have another surgery to get the rest.  After many many prayers and phone calls, she was admitted to M.D. Anderson in Houston.  Again, God completely orchestrated the timing and had everything prepared for her ahead of time.  She wasn't even supposed to get in for a consultation until the end of May.  Friday, February 26 she endured over 6 hours of surgery at M.D. Anderson - a double mastectomy.  She has since completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy and is currently in Houston for 6 weeks of radiation.  She has had nothing but a positive attitude and has only thanked God for how great she's felt. Truly such a warrior and a light.

The road has been long and difficult, but nothing the Lord hadn't prepared us for ahead of time.  It's so neat to look back at my journal and the scriptures God wrote on my heart last year  in preparation for what he had for us this year.  I had no idea what was ahead, but I do know that he is my God, my strength and my portion forever.

Lisa and Jimmy (my in-laws) are two of the most amazing, God-fearing, joyful, loving, encouraging, contagious people you'll ever meet.  If you didn't know them personally, you'd never know what they've been through this year.  They have given Jesus all the glory (yes, GLORY!) for this trial as they know so many have gotten to hear his name and about his goodness through it all.  They have such a powerful testimony and are such an inspiration to me and everybody who has the honor of knowing them.

All that to say, we had no idea this was coming when Grayson was born.  But God did.  He was not the least bit surprised.  Actually, he willed it.  He planned it in his perfect timing for us.  Grayson has been such a light and joy during what could be a very difficult time.  He is just absolutely precious and God gave him to us at his exact perfect time "for such a time as this."  Thank you, Lord for always providing!  You are so good to us.

I initially planned to work part-time after Grayson's birth while Lisa kept Grayson.  Our plans changed a little, but it has been such a blessing in disguise.  I have absolutely LOVED every minute of being able to stay at home with our precious little angel.  I honestly can't even imagine it any other way.  I love being able to cuddle and kiss him any time I want.  I love soaking in every second of his precious little life.  It sure is passing us by fast, but I desire nothing less than to have a front row seat to his ever-changing world.
